Preparing for the AFA Non-life exam
The non-life insurance exam is the most comprehensive part of the AFA certification: it covers property and assets insurance, ranging from household insurance to SME insurance. This revision guide covers each of its chapters in the same format as the actual exam.
The format of the official exam
A single exam covering several topics at once: SMEs, motor insurance, household insurance and other areas of property and personal assets insurance. It is the longest and most comprehensive module of the certification.
- Sessions available 24 hours a day: no waiting time to re-enrol.
- A second attempt was made without any further payment being taken (as confirmed; always check with the organisation).
- Our ‘all-category’ practice tests are timed to 60 minutes, just like the exam: this is the time you will actually have available.
Examination fees: 100 CHF, payable to the AFA (unrelated to Caelys access).

What does the AFA non-life examination cover?
Property and personal assets insurance as a whole: home contents, motor, legal protection, travel, home ownership, SMEs, as well as the basic concepts of property and personal assets. All of this is covered in a single 60-minute exam.
Do you need to pass another module before taking the non-life insurance module?
Yes. The General Skills and Knowledge module must be passed before candidates can sit the other exams, including the non-life insurance exam. This is the mandatory entry point for the certification.
Can you retake the non-life insurance exam if you fail it?
There is no waiting period: sessions are available 24 hours a day. A second attempt may be made without further payment, but the conditions are set by the AFA: please check them when you register.
